We Are Redefining The Concept Of Memorial Trees and Burials In Australia

We believe that remembering loved ones should be as beautiful and enduring as the lives they lived

Why We Do It? - A Letter From Our Co-Founder

“Hi, I’m Luke Roberts, co-founder of Mornington Green Legacy Gardens. Our story began with a vision to transform how we remember and celebrate the lives of those we love by creating a positive touchpoint that connects us to the beauty their life created.

Like many of us, I’ve experienced the silence of traditional cemeteries – places that often feel disconnected from the warmth of the lives they commemorate. I knew there had to be a better way to honor our loved ones while creating something meaningful for future generations.

In April 2020, we discovered this beautiful property on the Mornington Peninsula. As I looked at this former golf course with its mature trees and landscapes, I saw the potential for a living sanctuary where we can transform grief and loss from the grey landscapes of traditional cemeteries to growth and green through the colourful nature of blooming trees and flower gardens.

What drives me is witnessing the profound impact these gardens have on families. I remember our first tree planting in October 2021 – the way the family’s grief seemed to turn into warm feelings as they participated in creating new life. From that moment, I knew we were doing something truly special.

Today, with over 1,000 Legacy Trees growing in our gardens, each one tells a unique story. Creating deeply touching experiences for every family is my dream job, and I’m privileged to lead an incredible team who share this vision. We’re not just planting trees; we’re nurturing connections, healing hearts, and creating spaces where families can gather, remember, and find peace.

Visit our gardens, walk among the trees, and imagine how your story might continue to nurture both the earth and the hearts of those you love. Together, we can create a legacy that truly lives on”

Frequently Asked Questions:

We’re not a traditional cemetery. We’re a memorial Living Legacy Garden where ashes become living trees, offering a natural alternative to traditional burial sites. There are no graves or headstones at our gardens just flowers and trees.
We don’t do cremations ourselves, only the government cemetery trusts can provide that service in Victoria, but we can suggest trusted crematoriums in Melbourne. Our service starts once you have the ashes.
We treat the ashes with our special formula, then mix them into the soil where we plant your chosen tree. This creates a living memorial that grows over time.
Absolutely. We can guide you through the process of treating those ashes to create a Living Legacy Tree.
Yes, you can add ashes to your family tree. This allows your family to grow along with your tree.
