Queensland Kauri ]is a member of the Araucariaceae family. These trees are highly valued for their timber, which is used in construction, furniture making, and boat building due to its strength and durability. They are also planted as ornamental trees in parks and large gardens for their majestic appearance and shade. It has large, leathery, lance-shaped leaves that are dark green and glossy. The leaves are typically 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) long and arranged in opposite pairs. The bark is grayish-brown, smooth on young trees, becoming rough and flaky with age, often shedding in irregular plates. They are gymnosperms, meaning they do not produce flowers in the traditional sense. Instead, they produce male and female cones. The male cones are small and cylindrical, while the female cones are larger, woody, and can take over a year to mature.

Maintenance:
Soil and Light: Queensland Kauri trees prefer well-drained, fertile soils and can tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. They thrive in full sun to partial shade, with optimal growth occurring in humid, tropical to subtropical climates.
Watering: Regular watering is essential for young trees to establish roots. Once established, they are relatively drought-tolerant but will benefit from consistent moisture, especially during dry periods.
Pruning: Prune the tree as needed to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain a desirable shape. Minimal pruning is usually required due to the tree’s natural growth habit.
Pests and Diseases: Queensland Kauri trees are generally resistant to pests and diseases but can occasionally be affected by root rot in poorly drained soils. Regular monitoring and proper cultural practices can help prevent these issues.
